About the Event
Ending the Silence is a free, 50 minute education presentation provided to middle school and high school students in Kane So., DeKalb, and Kendall counties. Given by two trained facilitators- one a family member of a loved one with a mental health condition, and the other personally living in recovery, Ending the Silence aims to educate students about warning signs of mental health conditions and what to do if someone is exhibiting these signs.Through the recovery speaker sharing their story, myths regarding mental health conditions are dispelled, and a message of hope is instilled.
Student testimonies include:
"It was great to know I'm not alone"
"I think this program is an extremely important part in changing the way we
view mental illness and everyone should be exposed to this"
"It helped me not feel scared about mental illness"
